Hello again!!!

Our holidays have finished. Now is time to work hard again. A lot of new features are waiting in our ‘backlog’.

Again we are in a new ‘mini-sprint’ coding a lot and trying to solve some issues related to our 8.07 release and implementing new ones.

We are in a selection process to hire a developer: If you like Java coffe, your favorite season is Spring and some times Hibernates like a bear probably you can join to our ‘Web Console Development Team’. We’ll be waiting for you.

Recently we have finished Osmius documentation about 8.07 version and we have tried to make it a little bit dynamical. We have selected DokuWiki to implement our Wiki

Until now Osmius image over the internet was “osmius.net ” responsability.  From today you can find consulting, support, development and training services in the new site.

The ‘O’ day has arrived, the latest Osmius release is available. You can download now the new Osmius installer for linux system at: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=160907

The main changes:

• Autoinstaller
• More console features
• AUtomatic and remote infraestructure control
• More agents: Linux, Windows, HP-UX, MySQL, MSSQL, Tomcat, Apache, Internet Protocols, HTTP, Logs …

Things happen really fast we you are immersed into a new sprint developing new functionalities.

Osmius is growing up and I think we also, as a team, do.

This 8.04 (April 2008) Main Features  are:

- Notification Management: You can now subscribe to change in your servcies availability and receive notifications into your e-mail dependind on shift time.

- Infrastructure Management: One can see master agents and related agents state. Pause, start or shutdown remotely.

- Windows Monitoring: MS-Sql Server monitoring is now a fact. Also we can generate events reading from  Windows Event Log.

- Historic Data Management: Data and processes are designed now to alow you to forget about historic expansion problems. You configure to delete data older than D days, group in an average register per day when older than Y days, or in one register per hour when older than H days. (Roind Robin Databases)

- Usability: You can navigate from one screen to another easely to see events or to change one event’s thresholds.

Scrum is a great work (’not a silver bullet’ but almost ).

We are now testing the length of our sprints to determinate which is the best to our development team (2 weeks, 3 weeks,…, all our life…). Probably, there is not a concrete time period, but we are trying to find it.

Yes … we already have the windows agent working and tested in standalone and infraestructure mode. A lot of events, like in HP-UX and Linux agents, can be defined to monitor Windows platforms.

We will continue to increase the number of events in coming sprints.

We are here again, involved in other Sprint of Scrum.

We are working to get an Osmius Windows agent similar to linux and hp-ux agents (similar events) opening Osmius to other non-Unix-based platforms.

Hace un par de meses que venimos utilizando Scrum, una metodología ágil para la gestión de proyectos, quizás más enfocado en el mundo del software. Scrum define sprints o “apretones de trabajo” que suelen durar un mes y a su término es necesario presentar un producto.

No está resultando realmente útil y hemos avanzado bastante desde que lo estamos empleando; y es por eso que el próximo día 7 de Febrero a las 20.00 realizaremos una demo abierta para todo el que quiera venir.

¿Cómo llegar? 

Hemos sacado para la versión 8.01 un nuevo agente log. Este agente busca en un fichero de log de texto expresiones regulares y devuelve el número de veces que se ha encontrado el patrón. Como opciones se le puede indicar un patrón de búsqueda (obligatorio), un patrón de exclusión y la sensibilidad a mayúsculas/minúsculas.

Para Febrero queremos tener 2 nuevos agentes: un agente HTTP y un agente TomCat.
